Victorian and Edwardian terraces
Bathrooms often sit in a rear outrigger or a converted bedroom, with old floors and pipework to inspect before any layout is fixed. High ceilings help, but the room itself is usually narrow.

Liverpool is where M&M Bathroom is based, so it is the area we know best. We have more than 20 years of experience in the bathroom trade, helping homeowners replace tired bathrooms with rooms that look good, work properly and last. Every project starts with a free survey at your home, where we measure up, look at the walls and plumbing, and talk through how you use the room.
From there we put together a clear written quote covering the design, the products and the fitting. One team looks after the whole project, from the first survey to the final clean-up, so you deal with the same people from start to finish.
We supply the products as well, so we can help you choose a suite, wall panels or tiles, taps and a shower that suit your home and your budget. If you are not sure where to start, tell us about your space and we will advise.
The city’s housing ranges from tall Victorian terraces to riverside apartments, and each type shapes a bathroom in its own way.
Bathrooms often sit in a rear outrigger or a converted bedroom, with old floors and pipework to inspect before any layout is fixed. High ceilings help, but the room itself is usually narrow.
A small bathroom beside a separate toilet is common. Knocking the two together can make space for a walk-in shower, as long as the soil pipe and the walls allow it.
Leasehold flats usually need the freeholder’s or managing agent’s approval first. Lift bookings, loading bays and quiet hours decide when deliveries and noisy work can happen.
Listed buildings and conservation areas can limit what may be altered, so it is worth asking Liverpool City Council before settling a design. Original tiles and cornices are best planned around.

“M&M Bathroom transformed our old bathroom. The fitters were punctual, tidy and friendly, and the tiling is spot on. Would happily recommend.”
Four stages, from your first message to the final walkthrough.
Send your details and a few lines about the room. A written quote follows once the work and the access to your home are understood.
Layout, fittings and tiles are agreed in writing. On a narrow terraced street we also plan where the van and the deliveries will go. A deposit is taken once the price is agreed and the materials are chosen.
Plumbing, walls, floor and the new suite go in, in a sensible order. Dust sheets and a tidy work area protect the rest of the house.
Sealing, snagging and a final clean come before a walkthrough with you, so anything that needs a second look is noted while we are still there.
Many older terraces have solid brick walls, timber floors and pipework that has been altered over the years. It is sensible to find out what is behind the walls and under the floor before settling on a layout, and a survey at the property is the way to do that.
Tight parking makes access and deliveries harder. Mention it when you get in touch so it can be planned for.
Inside a listed building, changes can need listed building consent, and conservation areas can limit changes to the outside of a property, such as vents and flues. Check with Liverpool City Council before any work begins.
Timber floors in older terraces need extra support and careful waterproofing for a wet room, while a concrete floor in a newer flat is often simpler. A bath to shower conversion is usually possible in either, depending on the floor and the drainage.
